Even if you’re not a college football superfan, you’ve probably noticed that the SEC hasn’t looked quite itself this season.
The league has lost almost all of its marquee games, highlighted by LSU and Alabama’s losses to Florida State and Texas, respectively, and SEC teams haven’t looked particularly impressive against inferior opponents, either.
Even two-time defending national champion Georgia has had its share of struggles.
With many declaring it a down year in the league, SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum isn’t jumping to conclusions.
“I, certainly, think it depends on the end,” Finebaum said, per On3. “If Georgia wins at the end of the year? Then I think that washes away any of the bragging rights with what happens.
“Every case is different but probably the only game of that group that totally floored me was how poorly LSU looked. I mean that was the one school that I was counting on to be a contender. South Carolina losing a game shouldn’t surprise anyone, Jimbo losing a big game shouldn’t surprise anyone either.”
It’s certainly too early to be sounding the alarms, though it does seem to be a potentially open year in the conference. Only time will tell if this season is truly shaping up to be a disappointing one for the league.
