Patriots WR Tyquan Thornton expected to miss time with collarbone injury

Thornton expected to miss time with collarbone injury.

New England Patriots rookie receiver Tyquan Thornton has reportedly suffered a collarbone injury that will cause him to “miss some time.”

The injury occurred during the Patriots’ Week 2 preseason game against the Carolina Panthers on Friday night. Thornton went down with what was initially deemed a shoulder injury and was ruled out of the game immediately, which is never a good sign.

It’s a tough break for the Patriots considering the rookie wideout was showing significant strides in training camp, especially in his ability to create separation in his routes. The latter has been a big issue for Patriots’ receivers in the past.

The good news is the injury isn’t season-ending, and there’s a great chance Thornton will return to the lineup at some point. Granted, there isn’t a clear timetable of when that will be just yet, but at the very least, it does provide some hope for the future.

One interesting domino could be how Thornton’s injury impacts the team’s decision on other preseason standouts like Lil’Jordan Humphrey, Tre Nixon and Kristian Wilkerson, who is currently out with a concussion.

So while it is disappointing to see Thornton miss time, it’s good to know the Patriots have other options waiting in the wings.
