Former Tennessee Titans tight end Jonnu Smith is on the move once again. Two seasons after signing with the New England Patriots in free agency, Smith is being traded to the Atlanta Falcons.
According to multiple reports, Smith is being dealt to Atlanta for a seventh-round pick and will now reunite with his former tights ends coach and offensive coordinator from his days with the Titans, Arthur Smith.
It was Smith who has gotten the most out of Jonnu during his career, as the 27-year-old had his two best seasons as a pro with Smith as his offensive coordinator in 2019 and 2020.
Jonnu tallied 439 yards and three scores in the former year, and then posted a career-best 448 yards and eight touchdowns the following campaign.
Those two seasons helped Jonnu land a massive four-year, $50 million deal from the Pats in 2021, which was surprising to say the least considering Jonnu never posted elite production.
As was expected, Smith didn’t come close to living up to the contract. In fact, he tallied just 55 catches for 539 yards and one measly touchdown over 30 contests in New England.
This couldn’t be a better turn of events for Jonnu, who will now look to get his career back on track under the same coach who helped get it going in the first place.
