New England Patriots second-year edge rusher Keion White is looking in the mirror so much that he’s pondering what the future holds for him. Is that future even in New England?
“I’m going to try to get through these next two games, and then figure it out after that, and see where the cards may lie for my future,” said White, via MassLive’s Karen Guregian.
When asked exactly what he meant by that statement, White pointed to the nature of the NFL business as being “production-based.”
“Just in general. In terms of everything,” said White. “I mean, anything is possible. It’s the NFL. Anything can happen year to year. It’s a production-based business. It is what it is. You just figure out where you go … something’s gotta change. That’s the way I feel at this point.”
White acknowledged that he wasn’t playing good run defense, but he also stated there are a “multitude of reasons why” that’s the case. Could he be referring to coaching and how he’s being utilized in the Patriots’ defense?
One can only surmise what White is getting at with his recent comments. Regardless, there appears to be a disconnect somewhere defensively for the Patriots.
The team has given up the fourth-most rushing yards on average in their last three games. That ugly stat doesn’t appear to be anywhere close to going away unless they rectify ongoing issues.
White is currently tied with Deatrich Wise Jr. for a team-high five sacks. There was hope he’d take up the mantle left by four-time Pro Bowler Matthew Judon. That might still be the case in the future, but in the present, there are clearly reasons for concern.
