The New England Patriots announced the signing of wide receiver John Jiles to the practice squad on Tuesday.
Jiles was originally signed by the New York Giants as a rookie free agent on May 10. He was released by the organization on August 25.
He showed sparks of his playmaking ability during his collegiate career. As a senior, he recorded 66 receptions for 1,255 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns at West Florida in 2023. Jiles started all 12 games in his final year with the program.
The Patriots are looking to get more production out of the wide receiver position. They currently have 390 receiving yards at the position in total and rank last in the NFL in total offense.
The Patriots offense needs a jolt, and it seems as though they are trying to find any sort of means to get it. Jiles will have an opportunity to add depth to a position that desperately needs it.
