New England Patriots safety Kyle Dugger took the blame for the blown coverage on Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf that led to a 56-yard touchdown.
It was one of the key plays in the Patriots’ 23-20 loss at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.
The confusion appeared to occur between Dugger and Patriots’ second-year cornerback Christian Gonzalez. The lack of help at the top of the play allowed Metcalf to sneak behind the defense for an easy touchdown. It was a big play for Metcalf, who finished the game with 10 catches for 129 yards.
Dugger owned up to his mistake in the locker room when speaking with reporters after the game, per the Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan.

The Patriots won’t have long to dwell on the mistakes made in this game with a road trip to MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets on Thursday night.
They’ll have to be even better against a Jets offense led by legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
