The New England Patriots announced on Wednesday they would be re-signing linebacker Shilique Calhoun.
His signing comes with the addition of former Jets linebacker Brandon Copeland and the departure of outside linebackers Jamie Collins and Kyle Van Noy. Because of those departures, Calhoun should get a shot to compete for a starting outside linebacker job in 2020.
Calhoun spent 2019 on the Patriots, but he struggled with injuries after a strong training camp. He played in 15 games and got one start in a deep group of linebackers in New England. While playing 26% of defensive snaps and 50% of special teams snaps, Calhoun had nine tackles, three quarterback hits and one forced fumble.
Calhoun played three years in Oakland after entering the NFL as a third-round pick out of Michigan State.
