New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett and rookie Drake Maye are teammates. However, Brissett and Maye have a history dating further back.
As a result, this has helped foster a stronger relationship between the two quarterbacks.
Brissett played for the Washington Commanders in the 2023 season, and he was teammates with Maye’s fellow North Carolina product, Sam Howell. It was Howell’s connection with Maye that created the early interactions between Brissett and Maye.
“I was with Sam, who is like his best friend, and they’re very similar guys. We’ve met before [Maye] was even on the team,” Brissett said during an appearance on the “WEEI Afternoon Show.” “So we’ve had a relationship. And obviously, it’s not a final product.
“We’re still becoming closer and being around each other more and being able to talk. But we’re around each other all of the time, obviously in the building and things like that. But when we have downtime, we spend time together.”

This shows that football circles are often small.
Maye will be looking to build his resume as one of the top rookie quarterbacks in the NFL, while Brissett is looking to provide better stability for a Patriots organization that has not had much luck at the quarterback position in recent years.
It’s two different quarterbacks on two different journeys with winning football games as the common goal.
