Patriots make flurry of roster moves ahead of Week 10 vs. Ravens

A new tight end finally joins the Patriots’ 53-man roster.

The New England Patriots made their weekly series of pregame roster moves ahead of Week 10 against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Patriots placed outside linebacker Shilique Calhoun on injured reserve, activated offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor off IR, elevated inside linebackers Terez Hall and Cassh Maluia from the practice squad, waived defensive tackle Nick Thurman, added tight end Jordan Thomas to the 53-man roster and signed fullback Paul Quessenberry to the practice squad.

Calhoun’s absence is a tough break for a defense that has already been struggling at linebacker. He’s been a solid role player.

Eluemunor had played well during his limited work as the starter at right tackle this season. New England will be happy to have him back, but it’s possible he serves as the third tackle, with rookie Michael Onwenu playing incredibly well at right tackle.

Hall was a surprising standout in the Patriots’ Week 9 win over the Jets. The speedy, undersized linebacker may have carved out a role for himself after an injury to starter Ja’Whaun Bentley. Maluia has been a special teams contributor.

Thomas joins tight end Ryan Izzo on the active roster. Izzo was the only healthy tight end for Week 9. New England can play Thomas, receiver Isaiah Ford and defensive tackle Isaiah Mack for the first time after they cleared COVID-19 protocols.

Thurman is a strong candidate to join the Patriots practice squad.
