Patriots host dynamic RB/WR Demetric Felton for virtual interview

A potential target for New England.

The New England Patriots have met virtually with dynamic offensive weapon and UCLA product Demetric Felton, per The Draft Wire’s Justin Melo and NBC Sports Boston’s Phil Perry. Felton met with Patriots coaching assistant Vinnie Sunseri, per Perry.

In 2020, Felton, a running back in college, had 132 rushes for 668 yards and five rushing touchdowns to go with his 22 receptions for 159 yards and three receiving touchdowns. But he was also a bigger receiving threat in 2019 when he had 55 receptions for 594 yards and four touchdowns with 86 carries for 331 yards and a touchdown. At the Senior Bowl, he spent time with the receiving group, a display of his potential versatility in the NFL.

Felton might join a line of dynamic pass-catching running backs, after James White, Shane Vereen and Kevin Faulk. That said, it’s not totally clear Felton would stay at running back, if drafted to the Patriots. Perhaps they’d be interested in trying him in the slot in an effort to convert him to a new position — a process that New England has done many times.
