Patriots’ Edelman recruits the Celtics in Brady free agency pursuit

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is recruiting the Boston Celtics to help the Pats retain legendary quarterback Tom Brady in free agency.

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman has been keeping busy in the NFL offseason recruiting teammate Tom Brady to return to the Patriots, and has recruited the Boston Celtics to help him in his mission.

The shirts, which Edelman had designed to resemble an election campaign logo, read “STAY! Tom 2020 – a quarterback you can trust!” with a goat icon dressed up to look like the elephant of the G.O.P. or the donkey of the Democrats.

The implication of course being that his teammate is the greatest of all time.

For Edelman, that’s more or less the case — Brady being the only lead quarterback the wide receiver has ever played under since coming into the league in 2009.

Edelman made a point of sending the t-shirt to all members of the Celtics, and posted a photo on Instagram of the shirts hanging at the ready of the lockers of several Boston players.

It remains to be seen whether the pressure tactic will pay off or backfire for Edelman and the Patriots, as Brady has not let slip yet what his plans are going forward as a free agent.

But, Brady and the rest of the Patriots have maintained a collegial relationship with their sister franchise over the years, even helping try to recruit players like Anthony Davis and Kevin Durant to the Celtics in the past, so it certainly is worth a try.
