Patriots downgrade two injured starters for season finale vs Bills

The Patriots have downgraded two starters as out for Sunday’s game against the Bills.

The New England Patriots had perfect attendance at Friday’s practice, but the same won’t hold true when they actually suit up to play the Buffalo Bills in Sunday’s season finale.

Starting cornerback Jalen Mills (groin) and tight end Jonnu Smith (concussion) have both been downgraded as out for the game.

The Patriots have struggled with health in the defensive secondary down the stretch, particularly in their Week 17 win over the Miami Dolphins. Linebacker Matthew Judon even made the joke that he might have to play cornerback in that game.

Fortunately for the Patriots, Marcus Jones is expected to return to action to help boost things for a unit featuring Jonathan Jones, who is also questionable to play in the game.

Meanwhile, Smith once again being out at tight end means the Patriots will likely elevate Matt Sokol from the practice squad to work in behind Hunter Henry.
