Patriots’ defense very different in wins, losses

The Pats have allowed only 8.7 points per game in their six wins but 29.0 points per game in their six losses.

The New England Patriots come to town to face the Arizona Cardinals Monday night. New England comes to town with the league’s No. 7 defense.

They allow only 311.8 yards per game and 18.8 points per game, which ranks seventh.

However, that defense has been very different in wins and losses.

In the six games the Patriots have won, they have allowed an average of 8.7 points per game, never allowing more than 17 points.

In their six losses, it is a different story. They have allowed an average of 29.0 points per game, giving up more than 20 in each loss.

They are hot and cold.

If that trend continues, it won’t take long on Monday night whether or not the Cardinals have a chance.

The 20-point mark will be critical. If the Cardinals reach 20 points, they should win. If they are able to move the ball the way they did for three quarters against the Chargers, Arizona should get the win.
