Jerod Mayo shares update on Matthew Judon

The New England Patriots are keeping the Matthew Judon contract situation in-house, but coach Jerod Mayo told reporters that he had a “great conversation” with the four-time Pro Bowl linebacker.

He also said he expected Judon to return to training camp practice on Thursday.

Judon was absent on Tuesday after walking off the field, following an animated exchange with Mayo on Monday.

“Had a great meeting with Judon and we’re all moving forward,” said Mayo. “I remember as a player it’s always a difficult time when you go through contract negotiations and things like that. In saying that for the rest of the team, we’re pushing forward, fully expect Matthew to be out here today and participate in practice.”

Not long after Mayo’s comments, Judon was seen returning to practice for the first time since Monday’s incident.

This latest development leaves some hope that a potential resolution to Judon’s contract situation could be coming. The veteran pass-rusher is in the final year of his deal, and he’s looking for a restructured contract.

Perhaps a positive end can still come from all of this for both Judon and the Patriots.
