Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore deletes his social media accounts

Why?

UPDATE: New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore has restored his social media presences, with both his on Twitter and Instagram returning.

Gilmore is no longer on Twitter or Instagram. It appeared he deleted his accounts on Monday.

It’s not uncommon for people to delete their accounts before reactivating them. So perhaps this is only temporary. He used his account as recently as Sunday, the night of the Super Bowl. Gilmore had been somewhat active on social media, often tweeting about the NFL. He even escalated a beef with DeAndre Hopkins during the offseason on Instagram.

It’s possible he simply wants to focus on the offseason when he’s likely to renegotiate the terms of his contract. Gilmore is playing on the final year of his deal, but is set to make just $7.34 million in new money in 2021.

Considering Gilmore’s uncertain status with the Patriots, his disappearance from social media is sure to cause a stir.
