Patriots announce decision to fire Jerod Mayo as head coach

The Patriots have fired Jerod Mayo as head coach

The New England Patriots announced they are firing Jerod Mayo as head coach, following the team’s 23-16 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

It’s a surprising move considering Mayo had only coached one year in the NFL after inheriting one of the worst rosters in the league. However, the Patriots wanted to move fast, and they did so on their decision in the immediate aftermath of the season finale.

“After the game today, I informed Jerod Mayo that he would not be returning as the head coach of the New England Patriots in 2025,” said a statement from Patriots owner Robert Kraft. “For me, personally, this was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made.”
