Patrick Mahomes didn’t want Mecole Hardman taking the blame for a dropping a likely TD

Patrick Mahomes is such a good teammate.

Patrick Mahomes had an absolutely brilliant performance in a 27-24 win over the Buccaneers in Week 12. But after the game, he seemingly had one throw stuck in his mind: an incompletion to Mecole Hardman.

And Mahomes wanted the blame to fall on him.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback misfired to Hardman on what could have been a 89-yard touchdown. Hardman, a speedster, looked like he would have run free to the end zone if he’d been able to haul in Mahomes’ throw. But Mahomes threw just behind Hardman, who couldn’t field the catch.

Perhaps anticipating fans would be tough on Hardman for the drop, Mahomes took the heat with a tweet.

It seems like Hardman knew he was mostly at fault for the incompletion. The receiver responded on Twitter by taking the blame.

And more jokes ensued, with Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce jumping into the conversation.

Regardless of who was at fault — and, according to the Chiefs, it’s everyone — Mahomes was brilliant. His proclivity to jump on his own mistakes immediately after an amazing game is an impressive show of his perfectionism, humble attitude and strong leadership.
