Patrick Mahomes confident Chiefs can repeat as Super Bowl champions despite virtual offseason

Patrick Mahomes spoke about the Kansas City Chiefs’ virtual offseason and their chances of winning Super Bowl LV.

As the Kansas City Chiefs get their virtual offseason started, QB Patrick Mahomes shared his thoughts on the process the league has endured during 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Things are admittedly not the same, but Mahomes feels like there’s an even greater emphasis on something important — loving football.

“When you have this different scenario”, said Mahomes, “I don’t want to say adversity with everything going on – but it’s an adverse situation because it’s not the same as you would usually have and where you’re able to go in and hold each other accountable because you can see everybody all day long pretty much. Now, it’s about who loves football. Who loves the progress, and who wants to get better every single day. Coach Reid is trusting us to go out there every single day and be the best person that we can be in order to help the team.”

Mahomes understands the importance of team unity during the common offseason programs. After all, these are the moments in which the foundation for championship seasons are built.

“I think the guys that we have understand that, understand that they don’t want to just win one Super Bowl,” said Mahomes. “They want to make a run at this thing again. They want to play the best football every single year that they can. When you have guys like that, you can trust they’re going to be working out every single day. They’re going to be preparing themselves not only in the two hours, four-hour window whatever it is to learn from the coaches, to take that stuff home with them, study that stuff at night whenever they’ve got their own free time. And we have guys that love football. You understand that you’re going to have people that will take that stuff home, do some extra work in order to prepare themselves to be ready for whenever the season comes.”

Mahomes and the Chiefs will have a target on their backs in 2020 as the reigning Super Bowl champions. He will be faced with plenty of questions leading into the next season as he’s quickly taken the role as the face of the league. It’s clear that he’s willing to lead by example and go the extra mile in order to prepare himself for whatever lies ahead in the 2020 NFL season.
