Patrick Chung on Tom Brady’s decision: ‘He can do whatever he wants’

“(It’s) not weird.”

New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung isn’t outwardly fazed by Tom Brady’s decision on his future.

Brady is a pending free agent, and will be free to negotiate will the other 31 teams on March 16, when the tampering period opens. (He can sign on March 18 when the free agency officially opens.) But it seems Chung is keeping his cool while he witnesses Brady considering leaving his team of 20 years.

“(It’s) not weird,” Chung told reporters on Wednesday, via NESN’s Zach Cox. “It’s just something we can’t control, and we can’t worry about things we can’t control. He’s a grown man. He can do whatever he wants to make sure his family and his foundation are set. That’s all I’m going to say about that. It’s out of my control.”

Chung couldn’t contain his emotions quiet as well when he was asked about his position-mate, safety Devin McCourty, who is also a pending free agent.

“I’d love to have him back,” Chung said. “(He’s one of) my friends here. But it’s the same thing. He has to do whatever he has to do to take care of himself. So whatever decision that is, I’m going to back him fully.”
