The Timberwolves had to be feeling lucky early Thursday. Minnesota was unstoppable in its Game 3 matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies (-2.5 favorites) for most of the night — until it blew multiple 20-point leads in the 104-95 loss.
Every shot was falling for Anthony Edwards and friends. On the other end, Memphis simply couldn’t buy a bucket. At times, it was honestly hard to tell which team was the No. 2 seed (the Grizzlies) and which team had to win a play-in game just to qualify for the playoffs (the Timberwolves).
It got so wild for Minnesota that even Patrick Beverley — someone who isn’t known for his scoring touch — got in on the madness. Yes, that very same Patrick Beverley!
He might have even been too excited to join the fun.

With the shot clock running down, Beverley caught the ball near the left end of the court, drove right on Ja Morant, slipped and lost his balance, lost handle of the ball, picked it back up, cut back left on Morant, literally threw the ball at the backboard to try to alley-oop to himself, caught his own rebound while still in the air from the original throw, landed back on the floor with the ball in his hands and, finally, laid it back in.
Yeah, so, Beverley put on a cheat code. There’s no other explanation.
The Timberwolves would go on to lose 104-95 and home-court advantage. But at least Beverley had this little amusing moment to himself. Deep down, even despite the loss, it’s still a cool, chaotic memory.
