Panthers waive RB Tiyon Evans

The Panthers have waived RB Tiyon Evans.

After two practices in Spartanburg, the Carolina Panthers are back down to 89 players.

As announced by the team on Friday afternoon, running back Tiyon Evans has been waived. That leaves the current roster with five rushers—Miles Sanders, Chuba Hubbard, Raheem Blackshear, Spencer Brown and Camerun Peoples.

A South Carolina native, Evans played running back and quarterback for Hartsville High School. Following a stint at Hutchinson Community College, he went on to play one season for the University of Tennessee—rushing for 525 yards and five touchdowns over seven contests in 2021.

Evans, who entered the transfer portal, would then land at the University of Louisville for the 2022 campaign. There, he recorded another 525 rushing yards with six touchdowns while earning honorable mention All-ACC honors.

The 5-foot-9, 225-pounder cracked into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams this spring. He was claimed off waivers by Carolina back on June 8.
