Panthers signing QB Matt Barkley off Titans’ practice squad

The Titans will need a new practice squad quarterback.

The Tennessee Titans will need a new practice squad quarterback, as the Carolina Panthers are reportedly set to sign Matt Barkley off the team’s practice squad to their 53-man roster.

Barkley was signed by the Titans late in training camp to replace DeShone Kizer in the backup competition with Logan Woodside. After losing out, Barkley was cut and re-signed to the practice squad.

The Panthers’ signing of Barkley comes on the heels of quarterback Sam Darnold dealing with a shoulder injury. If he’s forced to miss time, Barkley will be second in line behind Darnold’s backup, P.J. Walker.

The 31-year-old quarterback has not played in a game since 2020, when he appeared in five contests for the Buffalo Bills, completing 11-of-21 passes (52.4 percent) for 197 yards and one touchdown to one pick.

As for the Titans, we expect them to bring in some quarterbacks for tryouts during the week in order to fill their void.
