Less than 24 hours ago, the Carolina Panthers got their franchise quarterback in Bryce Young. Now, they’ve gotten him some more help.
With the 39th overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft, Young’s cats selected Ole Miss wide receiver Jonathan Mingo. And, funnily enough, it was announced by another Jonathan—franchise great Jonathan Stewart.
The Brandon, Miss. native was a four-star recruit out of Brandon High School and had offers from the University of Georgia, Auburn University and—of course—the Rebels. He spent four years in Oxford—reeling in 112 receptions for 1,758 yards and 12 scores.
Mingo, 22, stands at a solid 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds. He has the athleticism to match that size, too—having registered an impressive 4.46-second 40-yard dash along with the second-most reps (22) of all wideouts at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine.
Carolina, even before Young arrived, already did quite a bit of work with their receivers—signing Adam Thielen, DJ Chark and Damiere Byrd. Mingo is now the latest weapon for their point guard of a passer.
