Panthers re-sign TE Ian Thomas to three-year deal

TE Ian Thomas is sticking around with the Panthers on a new three-year pact.

On Friday morning, the Carolina Panthers announced they’ve come to terms with tight end Ian Thomas. Thomas, who was set to hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent, will come back onboard with a new three-year deal.

The Indiana University product was drafted by the organization in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL draft. Now 25 years old, Thomas has amassed 802 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 90 receptions over his four-year career.

Considered a raw prospect upon entering the league, Thomas has yet to make much of a considerable impact in the passing game. Following a 333-yard rookie campaign, he’s failed to register 200 yards in any of his past three seasons.

Regardless, Thomas will stick in Carolina’s tight end room alongside Tommy Tremble, Colin Thompson and Stephen Sullivan. He also joins linebacker Frankie Luvu and long snapper J.J. Jansen in reaching new deals with the team before officially entering free agency.
