Panthers reportedly working out free-agent OLB Derick Roberson

The Panthers are reportedly taking a look at a standout UFL pass rusher.

You don’t have to remind the Carolina Panthers that they’re a bit thin off the edge.

According to Joe Person of The Athletic, the team is working out free-agent outside linebacker Derick Roberson. The 28-year-old is coming off a standout campaign with the United Football League’s DC Defenders.

Roberson began his pro career as an undrafted signee of the Tennessee Titans in 2019. The San Antonio, Texas native and Sam Houston State University product would spend three years in Nashville—amassing 26 combined tackles, 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble over 16 games.

He’d then return to his home state for a short stint on the Houston Texans’ practice squad in 2022. That two-month stay would be followed by a year with the Houston Renegades of the XFL, who selected him in the second round of the league’s 2023 supplemental draft on New Year’s Day.

After his release from the Renegades later that December, Roberson landed with the DC Defenders for their 2024 season. He registered 32 combined tackles, 4.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles.
