Panthers reportedly signing former 1st-round pick

The Panthers are reportedly set to sign a former first-round pick and Maiden, N.C. native.

A Maiden, N.C. native may be coming back home.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Carolina Panthers are planning to sign cornerback Caleb Farley. The 25-year-old was a first-round pick of the Tennessee Titans back in 2021.

Farley put in a standout collegiate career, albeit a brief one, at Virginia Tech prior to landing in the NFL. He closed up a two-year stay with a First-team All-ACC selection in 2019—when he recorded 20 combined tackles, four interceptions, a touchdown return and 12 passes defensed.

After skipping out on the 2020 campaign due to COVID concerns, Farley entered the 2021 draft. He’d be taken by the Titans with the 22nd overall selection.

Unfortunately, Farley’s pro tenure has been hampered by numerous injuries. The 6-foot-2, 197-pounder has dealt with knee and back issues, leading him to play in just 12 games since entering the league.

Tennessee parted ways Farley on Aug. 27.

The Panthers officially waived cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields on Tuesday, possibly opening up an active roster spot for Farley.
