Panthers QB Matt Corral likely out for 2022 season with Lisfranc injury

Panthers rookie QB Matt Corral may miss the 2022 season after sustaining a Lisfranc injury.

Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Matt Corral never really got himself going during the first summer of his NFL career. And, unfortunately, that’ll likely remain the case.

On Saturday, per head coach Matt Rhule, it was announced that Corral sustained a Lisfranc injury to his left foot during last night’s preseason matchup with the New England Patriots and may miss the remainder of the season. The 2022 third-round pick, who was splitting reps with fellow backup PJ Walker, did not finish the fourth quarter and exited the locker room wearing a walking boot.

Carolina traded up into the third round of the draft with, ironically enough, New England to nab the University of Mississippi standout. He will now finish exhibition play having completed 10 of his 24 throws for 69 yards.

Now, Rhule and the Panthers will have to decide if they’ll enter the regular season with two quarterbacks—Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold—or three with Walker as the potential added option.
