The Carolina Panthers are currently hurting quite a bit in their offensive trench. So, they called up a reinforcement for the time being.
As reported by Darin Gantt of Panthers.com this afternoon, lineman Justin McCray has been promoted for tonight’s Week 2 matchup against the visiting New Orleans Saints. McCray’s bump up into the Monday night matchup is a standard elevation.
The seventh-year veteran signed on in Carolina this spring. He would then be released during the team’s cutdown to its initial 53-man roster at the end of August and later returned as a member of the practice squad.
McCray appeared in all three preseason outings for the Panthers this summer. He played the majority of his snaps out of the center position (63) and also manned both the left (four) and right guard (11) spots.
Carolina is heading into the night without their two usual starting guards in Austin Corbett and Brady Christensen, whose season was just cut short due to a biceps injury. Cade Mays and Chandler Zavala will be starting in their places.
