Panthers may determine Matt Rhule’s future off offensive coordinator hire

If Matt Rhule cannot lure in a “rockstar offensive coordinator” for the Panthers, then it may be his head (coaching job).

Numerous reports, including one from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler as recently as yesterday, have indicated that Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule is safe. And . . . wait, what is that?

Is . . . is that Jay Glazer’s music? It is!

On Sunday afternoon, in opposition to those previous vibes, FOX’s NFL insider stated that Rhule’s job is actually not secure for 2022 just yet. In fact, it may hinge on if he’s able to hire a “rockstar” offensive coordinator.

Rhule’s search for his new play-caller began as early as a few weeks back, according to The MMQB’s NFL senior reporter Albert Breer. Breer noted that the second-year head coach was “vetting a long list of candidates” in hopes of a philosophical change for the team’s struggling offense.

Additional rumblings, based off a Sunday morning report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, has already linked a few notable names to the opening—including former Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien, former Washington Football Team head coach Jay Gruden and current Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell.

So if Glazer is indeed on point here, Rhule may very well be in for the search of his life.
