Panthers hire Bernie Parmalee as RB coach

Bernie Parmalee is coming over to coach the running backs in Carolina.

Not all of Dave Canales’ assistants are coming over from Tampa Bay.

As announced by the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday night, Bernie Parmalee has been hired as the team’s new running backs coach. The Jersey City, N.J. native is fresh off a three-year run in the same role for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Parmalee’s NFL coaching career began in 2002, as a tight ends and special teams coach for the Miami Dolphins. The former Dolphins and New York Jets running back stayed in those positions for three seasons until hitting the college ranks at the University of Notre Dame for the succeeding five years.

He jumped back up to the NFL as a tight ends coach for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2010 to 2012. Parmalee then transitioned into a running backs coach for the then-Oakland Raiders from 2015 to 2017 and the Atlanta Falcons beginning in 2018.

His stay in Atlanta lasted for four campaigns, and included additional stints as an offensive assistant, an assistant special teams coach the special teams coordinator.
