When it comes to the quarterback position, the Carolina Panthers can’t afford to be patient anymore. It’s time.
Following his session at the podium during Wednesday’s media availability, general manager Scott Fitterer spoke with a few more reporters at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine. One of those reporters was Vashti Hurt of Carolina Blitz, who asked how aggressive he and the Panthers would be in getting “their guy” out of this year’s draft.
“You gotta be aggressive,” he replied. “If you have a guy you have conviction on, go get him. You don’t wanna be reckless. But you wanna look to see what’s been done in the past, and if you have to give up some assets to go get him.
“I hope we’re not picking in the top 10 again, so it’s gonna be a lot more if you’re in 22 or something else at that point. This might be a year to do some things like that.”

Unfortunately for the Panthers, they’ll really have to go get him (whoever that may be) if that’s the case. Not only are they a bit down the order with the ninth overall selection, but there are at least a handful of other teams who could be in the market for a young passer.
Plus, there are only four players currently considered as first-round prospects at the moment. That group includes Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson and Will Levis.
But, that ninth pick does have its advantages. As Fitterer stated, No. 9 looks a lot better to a potential trade partner than No. 22.
We’ll just have to see how many more numbers would have to be added to such a deal.
