The Panthers have agreed to terms with their first-round draft pick, former South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn.
Horn was a surprise choice at No. 8 overall, especially with one last top QB prospect still available. Coach Matt Rhule believes that Horn will fundamentally change how they can play defense, though – mainly by utilizing more man.
With a long and lanky build, Horn fits the prototype of the corners that the Seahawks made famous during their run at the top of the NFC last decade. At 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, he has the size and more importantly the athleticism to matchup with some of the great receivers this division has to offer. Horn’s athletic scores are in the 99th percentile at his position. He will carry a heavy load right away, though. Horn is expected to start opposite Donte Jackson outside.
As with all first-round selections, Horn’s contract will include a fifth-year option.
