Christian McCaffrey is one step closer to returning to the field. The Panthers just announced that McCaffrey has been designated to return from the injured reserve list, where he’s been since Week 3.
McCaffrey suffered a high ankle sprain in the previous week’s game against the Buccaneers. In his place, backup Mike Davis has been mostly exceptional. Sunday’s loss to the Saints was his first time getting shut down since stepping into the starting lineup. The Panthers will be glad to get McCaffrey back, though. Yesterday, McCaffrey was wearing a red no-contact jersey at practice. Today he’s back in black and participating.
Today starts McCaffrey’s 21-day practice window. He’s currently at practice in a normal jersey with his helmet on. https://t.co/DWS6RFskGu pic.twitter.com/FktkCydYX0

The team now has 21 days to officially activate McCaffrey from the injured reserve list.
While we don’t expect him to play in Thursday night’s division matchup against the Falcons, it seems unlikely he’ll miss the next game against the Chiefs after getting an additional 10 days of rest and recovery.
