The Super Bowl was only 10 days ago. Some folks are already missing the NFL, though. Count Panthers defensive end Efe Obada among them. In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Obada asked when football season starts and claims his wife is already tired of him.
Obada was the first player the team re-signed this year. He agreed to a one-year extension the first week of January. According to Over the Cap, he’ll be making $660,000 in 2020.
Obada has been a quality backup but has yet to see a start. He was only on the field for 306 defensive snaps in 2019. That’s just 28% of the team’s total.
Whether or not Obada gets more playing time this year will depend on what the team does with starters Mario Addison and Bruce Irvin. Both are 32 years old and will become free agents next month.
Last year’s first-round pick Brian Burns should be starting this year regardless of what happens with those two. If both Irvin and Addison are allowed to leave, players like Obada, Marquis Haynes and Christian Miller will likely get more opportunities.
