If Ejiro Evero leaves the Carolina Panthers this offseason, he probably wouldn’t be going too far.
As reported by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the well-regarded defensive coordinator is set to interview for the Atlanta Falcons’ head-coaching job on Sunday. This is currently the only known head-coaching opportunity for Evero outside of the organization thus far.
He is currently one of 12 known candidates for Carolina’s opening. Evero, 2023’s interim head coach and special teams coordinator Chris Tabor, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken and Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald have all completed virtual interviews for the post.
The 43-year-old also drew interest from the Jacksonville Jaguars, who wanted to speak with him about their defensive coordinator position. The Panthers, however, blocked their request.
Evero, despite a handful of key injuries across his unit, led the NFL’s fourth-stingiest defense. Carolina allowed just 293.9 yards per contest—more than only the Cleveland Browns (270.2), Kansas City Chiefs (289.8) and New York Jets (292.3).
