This past Tuesday, Carolina Panthers cornerback Stephon Gilmore was caught by surprise when finding out he was listed on the team’s injury report. Well, he probably won’t be very shocked this week.
In the third quarter of the Week 16 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Gilmore went down without contact on what was a 23-yard reception by tight end Ron Gronkowski. After being helped off the field, the 10th-year defender was brought back to the locker room and ruled out for the remainder of the game with a groin injury.

This was a case of adding injury to insult, as Gilmore had a tough day sticking to Tampa Bay wideout Antonio Brown. Brown, by the time of Gilmore’s exit, was up to 80 yards on eight receptions.
Carolina may now have to try and absorb yet another setback to their once deep secondary. Fellow corners Jaycee Horn, Donte Jackson and A.J. Bouye have already each sustained season-ending injuries.
