Thursday night was a pretty hard night to swallow for Carolina Panthers fans, and their team didn’t even play. But DJ Moore and the Chicago Bears did, and they notched their first win of the season on a 40-20 triumph over the Washington Commanders.
The former Carolina wideout had himself a performance of a lifetime under the bright lights, totaling a career-high 230 yards and three touchdowns. Moore’s efforts not only helped the Bears move to 1-4 and snap a 14-game losing streak, but they also—ironically enough—left the Panthers as the NFL’s only winless team at 0-4.
Moore, of course, was traded away to the Windy City this offseason. The Panthers sent its fourth all-time leading receiver to the Bears—along with this spring’s 9th and 61st overall picks as well as a 2024 first-rounder and a 2025 second-rounder—in exchange for what was essentially the draft rights to quarterback Bryce Young.
To add insult to insult, Young and the Carolina offense has struggled mightily to begin their season. This year’s No. 1 overall pick has thrown for just 503 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions over three starts.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, they may not lose that ‘0’ this weekend either—as they’re set to visit the heavily-favorited 3-1 Detroit Lions.
Oh, and, yes, that second first-rounder Chicago got from Carolina currently stands as the No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 draft.
