The 2022 college football season is right around the corner, and there are few players that we’re looking forward to watching in Jeff Lebby’s offense as much as third-year wide receiver Marvin Mims.
Underutilized in 2021, Mims still found a way to lead the Sooners in receiving yards, despite just the fourth-most targets on last year’s squad. His 22 yards per reception has many believing that Mims is destined for a breakout year under new leadership, and with a quarterback, it sounds like he’s clicking with on and off the field.
In the latest two-round mock draft from The Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling, Marvin Mims was taken in the first round at No. 27 overall to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Here’s what Easterling had to say:
Justin Herbert already has a talented pair of pass-catchers in Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, but he could use another big-play threat who can challenge defenses with the deep ball. Mims is undersized, but makes up for it with his big-play ability. – Easterling, The Draft Wire
Mims would be an incredible asset to a Chargers team looking to keep up with the Kansas City Chiefs and All-Pro quarterback Patrick Mahomes. If Mims has the season that many anticipate he’ll have in 2022, he’ll be a first-round selection in 2023’s NFL draft.
Making an appearance in the top 50 is center Andrew Raym, who was sent to the Tennessee Titans at No. 50 overall. Raym will be going into his second season as a starter for the Oklahoma Sooners, looking to build off a solid sophomore year in 2021.
If he can help the Oklahoma offensive line provide more consistent protection and running game, then he’ll have a shot to be a draft selection in 2023. However, given that Creed Humphrey was taken with the last pick in the second round in the 2021 NFL draft, it seems unlikely that Raym would get drafted higher than one of the best centers in the NFL. But, every draft is different and class composition could push Raym up draft boards with a strong 2022.
