It only took three games for Green Bay Packers receiver Romeo Doubs to put himself directly into the conversion for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Doubs, who leads the Packers in catches (14) and receiving yards (137), now has the third-best odds for Offensive Rookie of the Year at Tipico Sportsbook. At +750, he trails only Atlanta Falcons receiver Drake London (+500) and New Orleans Saints receiver Chris Olave (+550).
Can he remain one of the betting favorites over the next three months?
Among rookie receivers entering Week 4, Doubs ranks first in catch percentage and passer rating when targeted and fourth in receptions and receiving yards. The only players ahead of him in receptions and receiving yards were first-round picks (London, Olave and Garrett Wilson).
Doubs also has a catch of at least 20 yards in all three games of his NFL career.
“The game is certainly not too big for him,” coach Matt LaFleur said Monday.
The fourth-round pick broke out in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, catching eight passes for 73 yards and his first NFL touchdown. It could be just the beginning. With Sammy Watkins on injured reserve and out for at least three more games, Doubs has a real opportunity to be a top target for Aaron Rodgers and solidify himself as a starter over the next month.
It’s only three games, but Doubs is currently on pace to catch almost 80 passes over a full 17-game schedule.
The next challenge is Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. Can Doubs keep getting open and making big plays for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers as teams start to key in on him more and more?
