After five games, Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams is on pace to produce one of the best seasons in the history of the NFL by a pass-catcher.
Adams currently leads the NFL in catches (42), targets (61), receiving yards (572), catches of at least 20 yards (10) and receiving first downs (28).
At Pro Football Focus, he is first in overall grade among receivers and first in yards per route run among receivers with at least 30 targets.
At his current pace through five games, Adams will produce 142 catches on 207 targets for 1,944 receiving yards over 17 games. The single-season NFL records are 149 catches (Mike Thomas), 208 targets (Rob Moore) and 1,946 receiving yards (Calvin Johnson).
According to the Packers, Adams has the most catches and second-most receiving yards in franchise history through five games of a season.
On Sunday in Cincinnati, Adams caught 11 passes for a career-high 206 yards and a touchdown. He became just the seventh player in franchise history to go over 200 receiving yards in a game.
No player in NFL history has ever reached 2,000 receiving yards in a season, but Adams’ hot start and the addition of a 17th regular-season game might give him a legitimate shot.
To get to 2,000, Adams would need to average 119.0 receiving yards per game over the final 12 games. He is currently averaging 114.4 through the first five games.
