Packers WR Davante Adams (hamstring) wanted to re-enter game vs. Lions

The hamstring injury for Packers WR Davante Adams doesn’t sound serious. He wanted to go back into the game on Sunday.

The hamstring injury that knocked Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams out of Sunday’s win over the Detroit Lions doesn’t sound particularly serious.

Coach Matt LaFleur said Monday that Adams wanted to re-enter the game but was denied as the Packers ran up a big lead in the second half and cruised to a win.

“I know he wanted to go back in the game,” LaFleur said. “I just told him, ‘Hey, let’s just see how these next few series go and see if we need you.’ Obviously he’s a huge part of what we do offensively and a key part of this football team. If we don’t need him, we didn’t want to put him back in a position to do further harm to his own body.”

Adams caught three passes for 36 yards over 38 snaps before departing. He also tweaked his ankle in the first half and missed a few plays.

The Packers didn’t need him after scoring 31 straight points between the second and third quarters to erase a 14-3 deficit after the first quarter. With the Packers up 20 entering the fourth quarter, and considering the Lions only once closed the gap to 13 points in the fourth quarter, the decision to hold out Adams became an easy one.

The FOX broadcast showed Adams on the sideline without a helmet several times during the second half.

Adams caught all three of his passes against Lions first-round pick Jeff Okudah on Sunday.

The Packers will need Adams healthy when they play the New Orleans Saints on the road in Week 3, a key early battle between two NFC contenders.

Through two games, Adams has 17 catches for 192 yards and two touchdowns.
