The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears are about to play a meaningful December game in freezing temperatures expected at Lambeau Field on Sunday afternoon. Oh, and it’ll be the 200th meeting between the NFL’s longest-running rivals.
Here’s how the staff at Packers Wire believes the Week 15 matchup will go down:
Zach Kruse (10-3): Packers 20, Bears 17
Three areas of focus for the Packers: Getting Aaron Jones going, confusing Mitchell Trubisky and winning in the red zone. The guess here is the Packers get it done against Trubisky and do more than the Bears inside the 20-yard line, and that’ll be enough even if Jones is contained. This will be another ugly one, but is anyone really expecting pretty in a game between the Packers and Bears in December at Lambeau Field? The Packers hold on late and get to 11-3.
Jack Wepfer (10-3): Bears 20, Packers 17
Call me cynical, but I’ve seen little evidence from this Packers offense that they’re going to be able to put up points against a still-stingy Bears defense (despite the loss of Roquan Smith). The Packers have looked flat two weeks straight against NFC East nothingburgers. The Bears have a real shot to win by avoiding mistakes, running the ball and letting their defense take over. Can the Packers win? Absolutely. Should they? Yes. Will they? I just don’t think they will; the sloppy football finally bites the Packers in the butt.
Marty Kauffman (8-5): Packers 23, Bears 14
This will be tight as most division games are but the Packers will come away with the win. After last week’s lackluster win, you could tell the offense knew they were not up to standards and they’ll be motivated to prove a lot of people wrong on Sunday. The defense should get more turnover opportunities on Sunday with Mitchell Trubisky as the opposing quarterback but it will be key to contain the Bears running game like they did in week 1. Green Bay knows what they have in front of them and a win on Sunday is another step closer to their postseason goals.
Anthony Nash (9-4): Packers 23, Bears 17
The last handful of Packers-Bears contests have all ended within a touchdown or less, and this one shouldn’t be too different. While Mitch Trubisky and the Bears have played well as of late, expect the Packers to continue forcing Trubisky to throw the team to victory. As for the Packers offense, it’ll once again be up to Aaron Rodgers to carry the Packers to victory, as the Bears will look to shut down the Packers rushing game. In a game that might come down to which quarterback plays best, it’s hard not to take Aaron Rodgers in Lambeau.
Nolan Stracke (8-5): Packers 19, Bears 17
This will be a tougher game than many think and could come down to the wire. The Bears are coming in hot while the Packers are still trying to find answers on offense after an ugly win over Washington. I think this will be another defensive struggle, similar to what we saw in Week 1. The Packers defense needs to build off that previous game plan: apply the pressure, disguise, and, most importantly, make Mitch play quarterback. On the other side of the ball, it’s obvious Aaron Rodgers and the offense simply need to play better. The Bears’ defense is much better than the one that held Green Bay to only 20 points and 195 yards passing last week. It may be another ugly win, but the Packers should be able to pull it off.
Joe Kipp (9-4): Packers 20, Bears 17
The Packers have a lot to prove in the final three games, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. A good place to start? Sweep your division rival. There’s plenty of questions surrounding the struggles of Green Bay’s receivers, but a large bulk of the blame falls on Aaron Rodgers, too. The Bears get back a key defensive player in Akiem Hicks, but will be without linebackers Roquan Smith and Danny Trevathan, but of whom had major impacts in Week 1’s matchup. Rodgers doesn’t need to be Superman, but he needs to show the willingness to play within the structure of the offense, especially against a stingy Bears’ D. Green Bay wins by a field goal.
