Claimed by the Green Bay Packers off of waivers in April, defensive lineman Gerald Willis was waived by the Packers on Sunday, ending his stay on GM Brian Gutekunst’s roster before it ever really began.

Willis never passed a physical with the Packers and was never officially a member of the roster.

The Miami Dolphins waived Willis, an undrafted free agent from Miami, in April. He was claimed by the Packers on April 21, right before the 2020 draft.

Prior to being waived, there was a chance Willis could have competed for a spot as a backup defensive lineman for defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.

During his final collegiate season, Willis tallied 18 tackles for losses. While undrafted, he was eventually claimed by the Baltimore Ravens. He played in two games and was on the field for 19 snaps with the Dolphins last season.

The Packers must trim their roster to 80 players by Aug. 16.
