Packers trim roster, release QB Jalen Morton, FB Elijah Wellman

The Packers released two players on Monday, including an undrafted free agent QB.

The Green Bay Packers trimmed two players off of the roster on Monday, releasing rookie quarterback Jalen Morton and fullback Elijah Wellman.

GM Brian Gutekunst’s roster is slowly getting closer to 80 players, the maximum set for Aug. 16.

The move leaves Aaron Rodgers, rookie Jordan Love and Tim Boyle as the only three quarterbacks in Green Bay for the rest of training camp. Morton went undrafted out of Prairie View A&M and signed with the Packers on April 29.

Wellman, who signed in January, was the only fullback on the roster, but the Packers claimed H-back John Lovett off of waivers, likely providing incentive to make the move.

Last week, the Packers released undrafted free agent rookie Jordan Jones, a fullback, and 2018 fifth-round pick Cole Madison.
