Packers to start Jordan Love at QB to open preseason vs. Texans

Packers QB Jordan Love will start and play “majority of the game” in the preseason opener against the Texans on Saturday.

The Jordan Love preseason show will begin Saturday against the Houston Texans.

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur confirmed Love will start against the Texans and play the “majority of the game,” while Aaron Rodgers sits and third-string quarterback Kurt Benkert eventually finishes the contest.

LaFleur said Rodgers, the reigning NFL MVP, may not play at all this preseason.

“Most likely not,” LaFleur said.

Love, the Packers’ first-round pick in 2020, will be making his preseason and NFL debut. Preseason games were canceled last year, and Love was inactive for all 18 games during the regular season and playoffs.

Rodgers is entering his 17th NFL season and doesn’t need the work during exhibition games. Love, on the other hand, needs to make up for lost time as a developmental quarterback. Live game reps during the preseason will be vital to his progression in Year 2.

“I’m super excited for it,” Love said last week.

Love hasn’t participated in a real game since the Senior Bowl in January of 2020.
