Packers to sign rookie WR Cody Chrest after workout Tuesday

The Packers are expected to sign rookie WR Cody Chrest after a workout on Tuesday.

The Green Bay Packers, who are down two receivers to injuries to open training camp, will sign rookie receiver Cody Chrest after a workout with the team on Tuesday, per Aaron Wilson.

The Packers’ roster is at 90 players, meaning a corresponding move will be required before Chrest is officially added.

An undrafted free agent out of Sam Houston State, Chrest spent time with the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers following the 2023 draft but was released by both teams.

Adding Chrest would give the Packers another receiver to evaluate while Jeff Cotton (PUP list) and Grant DuBose (NFI list) get healthy.

Before transferring to Sam Houston State, Chrest broke out as a senior at Harvard in 2019 with 45 catches for 706 yards and five scores. Over three seasons at Sam Houston, Chrest caught 131 passes for 1,715 yards and nine touchdowns.

Chrest produced a Relative Athletic Score of 9.77 out of 10.0. At 6-0 and 193 pounds, he hit 38″ in the vertical leap, finished the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds and completed the three-cone drill in 6.77 seconds. While a little light, his measurables match what the Packers generally look for in wide receivers.

The Packers worked out quarterback Jacob Eason and four total receivers (including Chrest) on Tuesday.
