Rookie offensive tackle Caleb Jones passed through waivers unclaimed and has been signed back to the practice squad of the Green Bay Packers, per Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Jones is currently in uniform and participating at Wednesday’s practice.
The Packers released Jones during final cutdowns on Tuesday, picking seventh-round pick Rasheed Walker as the 10th offensive lineman on the 53-man roster.
Jones, an undrafted free agent out of Indiana, impressed during camp and the preseason. Over three exhibition games, Jones allowed just one pressure and didn’t commit a penalty while playing exclusively at left tackle with the second-team offensive line.
Although there was some fear that Jones would get claimed after his impressive preseason, he went unclaimed on waivers, allowing the Packers to continue his developmental journey as a rookie in Green Bay.
Jones is a massive lineman at 6-9 and 370 pounds. His combination of size and performance in games during the preseason provides a strong foundation of future potential in the NFL.
