The Green Bay Packers signed veteran receiver David Moore, a possible kick and punt return option, to the team’s practice squad on Thursday.
Moore, a seventh-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2017, played in 47 games for the team between 2017 and 2020. He appeared in two games for the Denver Broncos earlier this season.
Moore, now 26, has 78 career receptions for 1,163 yards and 13 touchdowns. He’s also returned 22 career punts (186 yards) and four kickoffs (for 65 yards), providing obvious special teams value for the Packers. He even returned a pair of punts for the Seahawks during the postseason.
Matt LaFleur’s team is currently without returners Kylin Hill (injured reserve), Amari Rodgers (COVID-19 reserve list) and Malik Taylor (injured reserve). Slot corner Chandon Sullivan is currently listed as the top remaining returner on the roster.
With so many players on the COVID-19 reserve list, it’s certainly possible the Packers could elevate both Moore and running back Kerrith Whyte from the practice squad to handle return duties, with Moore taking punts and Whyte taking kicks.
In addition to signing Moore, the Packers also officially activated receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling from the COVID-19 reserve list. He was back at practice on Thursday.
