Matt LaFleur needs to amply Aaron Rodgers’ efforts if the Packers are to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016. This we know, and LaFleur’s run-heavy and play action-laden offensive philosophies are far more expansive than Mike McCarthy’s ever were. But general manager Brian Gutekunst also understood that his team’s defense was in need of an overhaul. So, the Pack acquired free-agent ends Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith, and selected Michigan pass-rusher Rashan Gary with the 12th overall pick. Add in the acquisition of former Bears safety Adrian Amos, and it’s clear that this team is all-in on making Rodgers’ remaining career as competitive as possible without putting everything on his shoulders.
