One of the Green Bay Packers’ undrafted free agent rookies has retired from football.
According to Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, rookie receiver Bailey Gaither decided to retire and is no longer with the team.
The Packers didn’t wait long to re-assign his uniform number, giving the No. 80 to new tight end Daniel Crawford.
Gaither, an undrafted free agent from San Jose State, signed with the Packers in May. He participated in the entire offseason workout program and the first five practices of training camp.
Gaither, 24, was one of the most productive receivers in San Jose State history.
He caught 135 passes for 2,227 yards and 18 touchdowns over 44 games and 27 starts. He finished second in receiving touchdowns and fourth in receiving yards in school history.
The Packers will place Gaither on the reserve/retired list. He is the second player to retire during training camp, joining guard Simon Stepaniak.
